Hessling Conservation LLC welcomes inquiries about possible conservation treatment by telephone or email. Your digital photos are helpful for understanding the condition of the painting in question, as is any documentation of previous conservation treatment.
CONSULTATION IN THE STUDIO
There is no charge for the initial studio consultation. Consultation may include testing to determine a painting's materials and condition and the possiblities for treatment. Notes may also be taken to aid in anticipation of a more detailed condition report and treatment proposal. A preliminary estimate of the cost of treatment may be offered. All consultations are by appointment only.
CONSULTATION ON SITE
Time will be billed portal to portal at a cost prorated from the daily on site rate of $750/day, mileage will be billed at the current IRS allowance, and other expenses will be charged at cost. Tests will be performed as much as possible without studio equipment. Minor remedial treatments may be undertaken.
All art objects must be insured while at Hessling Conservation LLC. Insurance provided by the owner of property must include a waiver of subrogation as stated in the Receipt of Artwork and Service Agreement.
CONDITION REPORT/TREATMENT PROPOSAL
Clients who decides to pursue treatment after the initial examination will sign a Receipt of Art Work upon leaving the painting at the Hessling Conservation LLC studio. Photographic and written documentation of the condition of the painting will be done along with more detailed testing to design an appropriate treatment. If after receiving the documentation and proposal the client declines to pursue treatment, the fee for the documentation is $350. Estimates are good for one year.
STUDIO HOURLY RATES
The hourly rate is $85.00 per hour. The minumum charge for treatment is $500.
The fee for treatment or other services on site is $750/day, billed portal to portal from Hessling Conservation LLC. Billable expenses include mileage to and from the work site and any special costs for equipment such as scaffolding as well as room and board if at a more distant location.
Hessling Conservation LLC does not transport art work. If the client cannot transport the painting to the studio, referral can be made to professional movers/art handlers. Please do not arrange for items to be delivered to the studio without making prior arrangements.
APPROVAL OF TREATMENT PROPOSAL
The treatment proposal is agreed to by signature of the accompanying Service Agreement, which specifies terms. A signed copy of the treatment proposal is due to schedule work. If a signed copy of the Service Agreement is not returned to Hessling Conservation LLC within thirty days from the date the treatment proposal was mailed, a storage fee of ten dollars per day will be charged, beginning on the thirty-first day. Storage fees may be waived if other arrangements are made within the thirty-day grace period.
TREATMENT SCHEDULING AND TIME OF COMPLETION
The amount of time it takes to complete a treatment will vary. Once a signed copy of the Service Agreement is received, treatment will be scheduled.
Clients will be notified once treatment is complete and invoiced for the cost of treatment and any special costs such as new stretchers. Final payment must be received prior to or on the day of pick up of the object unless other arrangements are made. Arrangements should be made to pick up the painting as soon as possible.
STORAGE FEES FOR COMPLETED TREATMENTS
Completed work not removed from Hessling Conservation LLC within thirty days of completion notification will be assessed a ten dollar per day storage charge beginning on the thirty-fist day. Storage fees may be waived if other arrangements are made during the treatment phase or the grace period.
